If you are looking to explore the great outdoors, we have plenty of it here in the Tamar Valley. The Valley itself is classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And not just country walks either - there are plenty of ways to get outdoors and active,from mountain biking to canoeing to treesurfing.

Colliford Lake

Located south of Jamaica Inn, the famous smugglers haunt immortalised by Daphne du Maurier, Colliford is a tranquil lake providing some excellent moorland walks.

Cotehele boat trips Nancy Belle on the River Tamar at Cotehele

Burrator Reservoir View of Burrator

Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips.

Cotehele (National Trust) The front of Cotehele House, Cornwall

Cotehele is a National Trust-owned Tudor house with extensive garden, orchards, estate, quay and working water mill. The garden and estate walks are open daily throughout the year. The house is open daily from April to the beginning of November. The mill is open every day from mid March to the end of October.

It is the perfect retreat for those who enjoy wildlife and peace and quiet. There are kingfishers, dippers, owls, deer, foxes, badgers, otters and bats as well as butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies.
